Default An odd question

I LOVE my showroom quality C4 Red Corvette. I don't really know who to ask in CorvetteForums about this. I was driving back home (north) along the Interstate through Georgia, when I wound up on local (non-Interstate) highways. As I passed through a town, a young man was trying to hitchhike. When he realized that I was not going to stop for him, he threw a handful of shark rocks at the hood of my Vette. Has anyone else ever encountered this?

At the time, I considered stopping to confront him, but I realized that he might wind up with a nice Corvette in that process. I considered going to the local Police Station, but I realized that a "local boy" would not get more than a "stern lecture", even though my Vette suddenly needed to have a $4,000 paint job. So I drove off home.

I now face the alternative of that VERY expensive re-paint, which I would rather not have to do for a C4. Especially when it might happen again with the new paint job. Any suggestions are welcome.

Sounds like a one-in-many-many nasty business, they happen.

You have full insurance? If so, good idea to stop (not close) and take pics, write some notes and description of the F*(#*$)(*#$ kid. This would help get an insurance-based paint.

Me, I would have called the cops, waited for them and pointed the damn kid out and filed some charges. And ask if hitchhiking is legal in Georgia.

At least report it to police asap. If you go through insurance they will ask if you did. The guy is probably known to them and may be problematic.

you could have parked within sight of him and called 911. if he got closer, moved up some. Cops are not going to give a "local boy" in Georgia a break. That only happens if its a cops son and not always then . The South isn't any different from anywhere else when it comes to that.

If its worth your time u can press charges. Maybe it will land the guy some probation or needed jail time.

You defintely don't have to shell out $4k for a paint job UNLESS you didn't have that kind of coverage. Insurance co might try to only paint the hood but squeeze em for every penny to color match

^^ Spot on. You will need the police report (case number for vandalism/ criminal mischief) for the insurance claim too. This retard throwing the rocks might gradually progress to hurling larger objects which would then translate into a felony. These scumbags shouldn't get free passes and you may save another victim from this criminal behavior in the future.
Sorry about your experience.

I quickly considered all those things. What do you think might happen to a "Northener" in a bright red Corvette who went in to talk to the Local Police? I thought I might easily wind up in jail, "for harassing a local kid". As to insurance, my car has about thirty tiny paint flaws now, from the many sharp rocks he threw at my hood (and I was going maybe 40 mph toward the rocks). People who do not own Corvettes have no idea how expensive a Corvette paint job is, and I am sure I would not want to know how much my insurance company would raise my Premiums. Worse, I doubt if they would authorize a true Corvette paint job, instead only paying for a cheap paint job.

I was partially curious if anyone else has ever experienced such a travesty, of the millions of Corvette owners in the Forums. Maybe someone would have a suggestion for me. Each of the thirty paint flaws are pretty small, and I wonder if anyone has found any way to have a Corvette recover from such an event. Also, having experienced it once, I am gunshy at putting huge amounts of money in a new paint job, as I am terrified how simple it was for that jerk to be holding a handful of rocks while hitchhiking, and I fear it happening again. IF the Forums indicate that "I was unique", I might pay for the paint. If there are "thousands of Corvette owners" who have experienced this, I probably will not.

Finally, there are "paint chip repair kits". Has anyone tried that on a Corvette? Currently, that seems reasonable to me, but I am old and I have severe Parkinson's Tremors, and I don't think I could hold a tiny touch-up paint brush accurately enough.

BINGO. It always looks better when you have a police report done at the time as opposed to a retroactive one. After all, how do I know this didn't happen 2 years ago or you didn't try to scratch it up to get a new paint job and then blame it on some unknown creature?

X4 something similar happened to my father driving his motorhome. AZZwipe threw a large brick through the passenger side front window. Pop called 911 and LEOs responded immediately who arrested the perp who was just released from jail 2 hrs before. Charges were pressed, no AZZwipe like this should ever get a free pass.
