Default door strikers

Has anyone adjusted the door strikers and care to provide info or suggestions? I have a 1984. The passenger door has to be slammed pretty hard for the second latch to hold. I think if I moved the striker out a little it could help.

There isn't any adjustment with the door jamb strikers, except for maybe stacking or removing washers on them. It sounds like the issue is with your door latch inside the door.

Can you replace the hinge pins? Good chance that is where the problem is.

It probably is the door droops a little even thought its more pronounced when the door pops open. I don't really have the time I could probably figure it all out, but don't know if I had everything I need. It just has to wait a while. I tried the old trick of putting electrical tape around and it helped enough that its more annoying after it wore out.

Its just not pushing back in far enough to rotate the part in the latch into its final position without a real hard pull.

Lack of proper dimensions my apology. Out towards the person opening the door

What happens over time is that the plastic that wraps around the striker can wear and not pull the door as tight as it used to. You can replace that part or another method would be to shim your striker somehow. Maybe a spot weld on it and grind it down until your door closes right.

I wondered if the striker was supposed to have a plastic sleeve around it but all the replacement part photos I see show a bare metal post.

Sorry, the plastic part I was referring to is the part in the door latch. There isn't any plastic on the striker.

If the door glass is improperly adjusted (tilted inward at the top or it goes up too far) it can prevent the door from closing easily.

I read where someone had that problem Im going to try the door with the window down a few times.

Can the latch be replaced or have the plastic in it replaced? I cant really see where it would be though.
