Default C5 daytime running light?

If this has already been discussed my apologies, but I think they are a huge safety item and wondered if something similar can be done on our C4s. I think they are on & required in Canada - so could there be needed GM parts available??

I planned to do that with my driving lights, actually. People are used to seeing DRL's now, and they seem to overlook me?

^Exactly. Car already comes with a nifty little switch right on the dash board. Turn one click clockwise and voila! You have DRL's. Press the fog light button if you feel compelled to have white ones too.

Here y'go. I've got them on my '96. Highly satisfactory. Advantages: they're brighter than parking lights, and your tail lights won't be on:

Why not have the taillights illuminated during the day - for the SAME reason having daylight driving lights?

To be seen both front and back - avoiding the negative possibility NOT being seen.

How long ago did you purchase this? How involved was the installation?

It was around six months ago. Installation is dead-nuts simple if you're comfortable with wiring. Having done it once, I could knock the second out in a half hour -- you know how that goes.

There's a wire bundle along the driver's side fender well that carries wiring for the lights in the front. Just a few cuts and splices. The kit includes insulation-displacement connectors, or you're always free to solder if so inclined.

I solved the DRL puzzle with LED white like modern cars. Pilot LED strip inside the turn lens connected to fan 12v relay power. I love them.

Avatar to your left. 4" Pilot strip on the inside of the turn signal housing. IGN ON runs them with almost no power draw. Cost under $10. I think they add safety
and need to be white.

Can't see much from that small picture - so they stay on all the time - are they brighter than the furn signals?

Why do you say that? According to a summary HERE, it doesn't seem that impressive.

The analysis evaluates the effects of daytime running lights (DRLs) against three types of target crashes: (1) two-passenger vehicle crashes excluding rear-end crashes, (2) single-passenger-vehicle to pedestrians/cyclists crashes, and (3) single passenger-vehicle to motorcycle crashes. Each crash type was examined at three crash severity levels – fatal, injury, and all severity. The basic approach is a control-comparison analysis of real-world crash involvements for DRL-equipped vehicles and non-DRL vehicles. Ratio of odds ratios were used to derive the DRL effects. A 95-percent confidence interval was used to infer statistically significant conclusions. The Fatality Analysis Reporting System and the State Data System were the crash data sources used for this analysis.

The analysis found that DRLs have no statistically significant overall effects on the three target crashes. When combining these three target crashes into one target crash, the DRL effects were also not statistically significant. When examined separately for passenger cars and light trucks/vans (LTVs), DRLs in LTVs significantly reduced LTVs’ involvements in the target two-vehicle crashes by 5.7 percent. However, the remaining DRL effects on these three target crashes were not statistically significant. Although not statistically significant, DRLs might have unintended consequences for pedestrians and motorcyclists. Particularly, the estimated negative effects for LTVs were relatively large and cannot be completely ignored.

Where are you picking up the power for this, if you don't mind my asking?

You have to open the wiring loom between the upper control arm and the radiator - once open the instructions guide you though each color to connect to. In this case it refers to a "switch power circuit" in my car it's pink. It's all very simple - the worst part is opening the wire loom and separating the wires needed. My electrical skills are not that great and my reading instructions is not much better, and I got it done - soooo. I did have an issue at testing the lights - emailed WebElectric and within 10-15 minutes they sent me an email and gave me advice and it fixed the issue - the power wire Quick-Splice didn't sink into the power wire to complete the circuit. I'm real happy with the whole deal and the lights look great.
