Default Trunk bolt

Hi gys ,
recently I started to work on my '85. While soundproofing the trunk I have found in the a large bolt which seemed to be there only to keep in place the factory soundproofing material . On the otherside it is backed by a large metal plate.

Questions : Is this bolt there from the factory ?
Is there a reason GM made it so big ?
Can I get rid of it ?
Photos below

Thanks.

Not sure if they changed it from 84-85 but my 84 had no bolt in it when I tore out the carpet

Seems to to me that bolt might be "custom" work, this why I asked.
If not GM I think I will get rid of it...

Is the top of the bolt threaded on the inside? (maybe where a smaller bolt/screw can be put into it) this is a long shot but maybe a amp or something was attached to it? Only thing I can thing of...
