Default Clicking C4

Just noticed a clicking that seems to be coming from the left , rear wheel . Only notice it going very slowly , and only when moving . Pretty much everything in the back end has been renewed as well , so really not expecting any noise from there either . Any ideas would be greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance guys ,,,,,,,cheers .

Did you replace the teflon washers when you did the bearings?

x2 on the teflon washers.

Mine made the clicking noise only when moving very slowly and usually just when starting from a stop and more common when turning from a stop.

I found the following thread useful.

Replace those washers, make sure to coat the stub axles with Anti Seize, and finally torque down to 300 ft/lbs. I just ran the nut with my impact gun and it stopped making the noise. I did the 175 ft/lbs torque spec, but that still made the clicking noise.

Hi there , got new washers from corvette central and Timken bearings . It's actually the second time around . Did not change the washers the first time around and the rear end was really noisy . Noisier than the exhaust in fact . Thank you , cheers .

Hi What year C4?

The early 84-87 had brake shoes in the disc rotor, if they are over adjusted or disc warped they can make that click sound.

Did you replace the half shaft universal joints? re you mentioned everything had been renewed, I average 4 years before replacing the universal joints. Dry rusty universal joints will make a clicking or squeak sound, bearings will usually start to make a rumble noise that changes pitch when cornering.

Good luck odd noises are a nuisance.

Well all the universal joints have been changed on all three shafts as well as new bolts and straps . New yolk and steel drive shaft . Differential has been rebuilt . Brakes are disc and been upgraded . Not sure about Teflon washers , I got the standard tin ones . The vibe I am picking up is to re torque the wheel bearing nuts . But I've been advised that it's a no no to do that . Can any one shine some light on this matter ??? . This C4 is a never ending drama that keeps me poor . I know some guys with C4's that have never had any dramas , but they also drive granny style and will not do track days . I like to drive mine like I stole it , that's the difference right there . Cheers and appreciate any thoughts on this . Thanks in advance

Well I guess I will just have to grin and bare it until it gets worse , then change the washer and bearing at the same time . Thing is that when I was looking for the washers the only ones I could get were from corvette central and they were the standard ones . Better luck next time I hope . Cheers

I think those are what everybody calls the Teflon washers because of the black (Teflon) coating on them.
I changed mine when I did bearings and U-joints. I put the new ones in anyway, because I had all the parts ahead of time, but could see nothing wrong with the washers that were in there. Don't know if the coating wears out on them or what makes the noise, I just changed them anyway.

Do you only notice it if you're making a slow turn? If so you may need to add some GM limited slip differential additive.

Thanks for that , thought I was losing my mind . So basically they are just the standard washers that just happen to be a dark colour . That's hilarious , thanks again champ , ,,,,,,cheers .
