I have a 86 coupe with 18 x 9.5 wheels all around. I have 275/40 on the car now. There is a tire I want to get but; it only comes in a 285/40 or wider. Do you think the 285 will fit without rubbing? I know its only 10mm wider but; it might be enough to rub?

thanks for any advice.....
That's a quite 'tall' tire but actually the 275 - 18 is also. What have you done for speedometer correction? What offset wheels are yours? You're using adapters or direct fit? If adapters - how thick?

No adapters or spacers. The rims have a 40mm offset. The transmission gears were changed with a rebuild. The diameter of a stock rim is almost the same as my set up with a 40 series tire. More rim, less tire.

It would be safe to assume with a 40mm offset you should have no issues - the more rim/less tire ain't quite right but I get it. If you're happy with speedo with 275/18 and the 285/18 is the same profile you should be good.
