The driver's side door on my 1989 Corvette will not stay in place if it's open, from what I've read, I need a new upper door hinge or at the very least an upper door hinge spring. I've been working on cars my whole life so I'm confident I can replace this, but how much easier would it be to replace the entire upper door hinge instead of just replacing the spring?
Also if anyone has any experience doing this job, is it just unbolt the old hinge and bolt on a new one, or is it more complicated than that?
Edit: I've already googled it and looked it up on youtube, just in case someone suggests that
I did the one on my '87. It was pretty much unbolt and reinstall. You will need to align the door again if you don't mark the hinge well. The right and left side are interchangeable, so I got a used RH one. They make a tool to replace the spring, but my bushings were pretty well shot too, so I'm glad I just replaced it. Grease it with white lithium before install.
