Default New guy with C4 101 questions

I've been tunning TPI camaro's for the last 4 years and have been very happy, but i think it is time I finally upgrade and start running with the big boys and get myself a y-body. I want to get a speed density TPI 6 speed vette and I had some questions.

Questions:
Which C4s had the Dana 44? is the axel ratio the dead give away or is that the 8.5" ring gear option?

What year were speed density TPI? (Camaro was 90-92, corvette I would guess 90-91)?

Did the big brakes and beefy suspension(non FX3) come in the same package? Are they worth it?

Althought i plan to keep her pretty stock, how much torque can the factory zf-6 and dana 44 take?

Did any C4's come with the bigger wheels that where not ZR1s?

Thanks in advance.

You'll get better answers in C4 Tech, perhaps Thrills can move it there.

Which C4s had the Dana 44? is the axel ratio the dead give away or is that the 8.5" ring gear option?
1985-1996 stick shift cars had Dana 44. All automatics have Dana 36. The 1984 stick shifts also had Dana 36.

What year were speed density TPI? (Camaro was 90-92, corvette I would guess 90-91)?
I believe only 1990 and 1991 are SD TPI for sure.

Did the big brakes and beefy suspension(non FX3) come in the same package? Are they worth it?
J55 is the big brake option. Depending on the year there are different suspension codes. Z51 or Z07 are more than worth it. :D

Althought i plan to keep her pretty stock, how much torque can the factory zf-6 and dana 44 take?
1989-1992 ZF's are listed as 450 ft/lb and 1993-1996 ZF's are listed as 400 ft/lb. They can handle more than that from what I've seen. The Dana 44 seems to be good down into the low 1.5x sixty-foot range at the track before damage occurs.

Did any C4's come with the bigger wheels that where not ZR1s?
In 1996 the GrandSport coupes came with 315mm rear tires. I forget what the Callaway Twin Turbos had.

She doesnt need to, you already hit the nail.

Most people do upgrade their brakes if they dont get the J55 brakes, but it would be better to upgrade them to C5/Z06 brakes instead of J55.

Just wanted to say welcome to the forum. I have always been a big fan of the '82-'92 3rd generation Camaro. Speed density was in '90-'91. All 6-speeds came with a DANA 44. Z51's have bigger brakes and better handling. :)

6 Speeds had Dana 44, Autos had Dana 36
What year were speed density TPI? (Camaro was 90-92, corvette I would guess 90-91)?
90-91 had TPI
92-96 went to the LT-1 motor

They were optional on the cars as a J55 option until '95 when they became standard. There were suspension packages that offered better handling and firmer rides. These were the Z51 and Z07 handling packages. FX3 was a cockpit adjustable suspension. If you are going to upgrade the suspension with your own sway bars, shocks, etc. as better aftermarket parts are available than what the cars used then they aren't worth it. For example, I upgraded to C5 brakes which are way better than the J55 bib brake option. FX3 is very expensive but if you want to modify it with Doug Rippie stuff its great.

Close to 500 at the crank.
Did any C4's come with the bigger wheels that where not ZR1s?
The GS coupe came with 17x9.5 front, 17x11 rear.
All 90-92 vettes came with 17x9.5 on all fours
93-96 vettes came with 17x8.5 front, 17x9.5 rear except for Z07 which had 17x9.5 on all four corners.
I upgraded to GS rims on mine. Better offset for the regular body style and they fit the C5 brake calipers.
