Yes, I have owned my GrandSport since new with less than 10 miles on the clock and it does have overspray from the factory!
That same year I drove a 96 Collectors Edition black gut and another GrandSport Red gut all brand new low miles and they all had overspray on the latch. The Collectors Edition and GrandSport were different dealerships!
I can't comment on other years but 1996 seems to have the overspray.

What's your point - remember American made cars - quality issues - in '78 at the St Louis plant they had a 120% return rate in the paint shop. I could go on, but won't.
Don't get me wrong - we make great cars here, buttttt.

i think his point is a valid one in determining if it was in an accident. i would want to know as well if it were me.

I believe the OP's question is certainly valid. I don't quite get the "sarcasm" towards a new posters legitimate question.

OP - You want to be sure the "Certification Labels" are present and don't show being masked for refinish operations on the drivers door. Missing or overspray - not good!

Maybe you should go buy some import if American cars have quality issues. The imports are just as "cheap"... Nobody seems to get that. I sold cars at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealership and then a Buick/Chevrolet for some years and all the used imports on the lot (06'-12') were very very "cheap". Same interior quality as the American cars (if not less quality) but because they are imports they are praised while American cars get **** on for the same materials. Saw it first hand on just about every import brand. The only one that I thought was decent was a 12' Hyundai Sonota. Seemed pretty decent.

Looks original to me. I believe that bottom sticker with the VIN is almost impossible to get a replacement for, so if there's no evidence of masking around it, that's likely the original paint - in the door jamb, at least.

just to add my 2 cents - my 96 had overspray on the door latch mechanism. seems though, my 85 didn't as well as both 90's.

The door is painted without the door trim, if you remove it its painted under it. Most the cars I have seen the torx screws are painted I'm sure GM did not paint them off the car. So if the screws were painted was the latch in place? Did GM do a better job of masking the latch area or respray the latch black after the fact on some years? C4's also have overspray in many other areas. If your worried about repaint or accident repairs have a qualified shop look it over.

This over spray in latch area question was brought up in a previous post quite some time ago and I replied to it with pretty much the same answer I gave the OP.
I think it is a valid question from the OP but I can't believe some people who have wise a$$ remarks, these people must be the same snobs who don't wave and think their car is somehow better than everybody else's.
This is supposed to be a forum to help people is it not?

Here is a great idea if someone does not like a question asked by the OP why not ignore it and refrain from replying with a non helpful (smart a$$) response.
We all own or are about to own a C4 Corvette that is why we are in the C4 section, let's try to be helpful and not so miserable.

I bought my 85 new and had zero over spray. Those that do and have had the car since day one need to know that the car still could have been repaired in some way do to shipping damage before taking delivery. I know mine was

I agree - the factory paint shops are always busy.
