Default 1984 Flasher

Hi All!

Just purchased my first Corvette. A 1984!

It's a bit of a project so expect a bunch of questions this winter.

I've been all over the internet and youtube trying to find out where the flasher is for the turn signals. They are blinking rather slowly, doesn't matter which direction they blink at the same speed, but slow.. probably once every 2 seconds. Hazards blink at a normal rate so I think it probably has something to do with the turn signal flasher? I have part of the dash removed and the lower plastic panel above where the passenger puts their feet.. I can even hear it blinking but can't find it for the life of me. Any tips or photos? I've seen a couple videos but it looks like on the newer ones they were located on the drivers side so I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'll be sure to post pictures in the intro forum later!

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! I have a 1984 as well.

It is located on the passenger side up and behind the padded dash. You have to remove the lower panel and reach up from below.

I actually found mine by putting the turn signal on and reaching up in the rh dash till i found the flasher.

Flasher is being pointed to. It is clipped to the bracket on the left.

Found it! Luckily it was yellow. hoping this will fix the problem! I'll report back after a trip to the auto parts store.

I also found a relay labeled 14078902 which appears to be for the cooling fan. Here's the same one from a google search:

The prongs on the inside are completely covered with a black goo? Is that normal? Not sure if it would also be worth replacing since I have it out anyway but wasn't sure if it was some sort of insulator or something.

Edit: still waiting on my haynes manual to come in - any other resources I should look into to start learning about this car?

"The prongs on the inside are completely covered with a black goo? Is that normal?"

The current 1984 I purchased in 2011 had the black goo also.

Tht black "goo" is a weatherproofing material to keep moisture out. It will be found on every relay connector in the engine compartment and under the dash.

Thanks for pointing out that location, I think I have to replace it on the '85 as well. My flasher works all the time for right turn signal functions, but for the left it often sticks on and does not flash. The hazards function normally. Sound like a flasher issue?

No, that sounds like a bad light bulb. Be sure to check the one on the side of your left front fender. It's a bear to get out!
