to add to my recent issues - my hood release now refuses to cooperate. I found a Dorman brand replacement at auto zone but did not know if the quality would be the same as one from an hecklers, zip or corvette central.
Does anyone have experience with this brand? Is it an acceptable replacement?
I have used a lot of Dorman replacement parts. Some are good and others not so much. As for the hood release cable assy I would not hesitate using one on my 1984.

Good luck with your repair.
Their quality can be hit or miss. I would install an emergency cable as cheap insurance no matter what brand you buy.
Eckler's sells Dorman. They are junk. Mine was about 3/8" too short on both sides so I had to trim the adjusters to allow the hood to latch. This has been an ongoing problem and there is a thread on here somewhere discussing it. People have contacted Dorman and they claim they fixed the problem but mine was bad as of December 2018.
I would personally just buy the original due to there being no fitment issues and the quality will be original and good. The Dorman brand does have some decent products, but for direct replacement parts for long term use, original parts are always the best option.
