My 1989 C has an issue and the pros at ProStreet McKinney, TX are pulling their hair out.
It runs great! Bumps right on. Runs for 10 minutes or so. Then the dies. No spark.
They've put new parts on to try and repair the issue:
New GM distributer
New O2 sensor
New Catalytic converter
New plugs and wires
They are now telling me to take it somewhere else and are giving up.
I originally took it to them for a dyno tune but can't fix this one issue first.
Any ideas what would cause the ignition to stop making spark after the computer takes over in closed loop?
Not one of those parts has anything to do with your problem go get your money back. All you did was pay them to guess and throw parts at your car unless they all went bad at once which doesnt happen
Try C4 tech section (doubt Tadge deals with this usually new car stuff only)
Too many guys with toolboxes calling themselves mechanics; thank your lucky stars they didnt try tuning it too good gawd.
My 91 would run for a few minutes and then die. It would crank but would not restart. After cooling off it would start fine, run a while and then die. I finally noticed the digital temperature readout jumped from about 160 degrees to 260 and then the car died. It turned out the problem was in the ECM. Replaced that and it is now fine.
