Sorry for bringing up an extremely old thread, but I finally bumped into the owner while he was outside towing it away so I could ask him what happened.
He said the cause was a short in his climate control unit - he just bought one salvage from Just Corvettes in St. Charles, MO. After he installed it, he noticed the fire started from the climate control - I'm not sure if this was on start up or after it was idling for awhile. Only had liability insurance on it too.
I'm guessing the explosions I heard was from the tires or battery popping. Motor is still good as it didn't pass the firewall, so if anyone wants to buy a rolling C4 chassis I can hook you up.

Thanks for the update, sucks for the owner though.
