Default can anyone relate?

Well, it's been a rough week for me. I think it's common for corvette owners to get health problems, atleast it seems that way. Get your corvette finally and then have to sell it "due to medical reasons". I'm 29 lol, been through cancer already and now I'm scheduled to have gallbladder and apendix out on Dec 23rd (merry Christmas ). Ended up in the ER last week.

Anyways that's the first half, more of a ramble then anything.

So I'm stuck in my own little world last week and this week. Wake up one morning and go start the corvette, it's 14* out so she isn't happy, 5 min warm up and drive to work and go in. Then I hear someone say "you hear if we're still getting 3 to 5" of snow today?". And suddenly I'm awake lol. So the sky's open and white death throws a good inch on the corvette in an hour lol. I'm thinking crap, driving home will be fun! I'm a truck driver and head north, snow follows me all day. Get back down and nothing is stuck on the roads, crisis averted lol. I was bummed I couldn't do donuts though.

I know a lot of people don't drive their c4 during winter, but for those who do, ever get a snow shower when you didn't expect it? I have a 4wd sierra 2500 for snow, my lifestyle just keeps me uninformed though and I'm often in my own world.

Where do you live?

I can (partially) relate as I grew up in Northern Illinois but now live in Texas. Vettes can be driven 12 months a year down here.

I'm in Cincinnati. We don't get much snow, and they freak out about anything we may get. I don't listen to public radio or watch tv, so I'm a bit out of touch lol.

I can relate to the unexpected snowfall in a C4. In 1984 when my 84 was new I took a vacation in the winter of 1984 to Jacksonville, FL. Weather was supposed to be OK while we were there. It got severely cold and pipes froze and busted all over the city of Jacksonville. Ice on the streets from the leaking water made people have all kinds of fender benders.

We decided to leave and head home and got caught in a 6 to 8 inch snow storm around Nashville, TN. I found out just how bad a C4 handled in snow. It was not good and had one terrible drive going home.

We made it home OK but I was a nervous wreck by the time that we got past Nashville and the roads cleared up to just wet and nasty.

That was the only time I drove my C4 in a major snowfall and I hope the last.

I have had the Gallbladder surgery also and can relate to that as well.

I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgeries

I'm very sorry to hear of your health issues. Hold on to the corvette; I know it'll be an expensive casket, but I plan on being buried in mine.

Hope your health improves soon. I have a truck to drive in winter so that's covered. I have tried to turn my Vette around in the garage in the winter before, it was no fun trying to get it to back in with all the slipping and sliding. I have a 94 TBird also and have driven that in winter, no fun at all even with snow tires.

Anyone that will drive a Vette in winter, with or without snow tires is a braver person than I am.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm not to worried about it, just had my mind on other things then weather lately.

I have all season tires on the corvette. I sees weather a lot, just not a few inches of snow!

Best wishes on this holiday season. Was hoping for one last ride in my C4 but wife's cold stopped our early December dash. The next weekend was 4 inches of white crap followed by 7 tomorrow. I guess its time to hook up the battery tender and tackle that broken antenna.

God speed in your recovery.

Wishing you well for your medical issues and a quick recovery. Hopefully you will be going strong by the time you take your Vette out in the spring.

As for C4's in the snow, I drove a couple of them all year In IL with a 100 mile per day commute. With good tires, they are really pretty stable and my '88 and '94 did pretty well. Mostly on plowed roads, but I got surprised a few times with some fresh snow. I never got stuck, but it was close a couple of times. The problem is the salt. I hate it. I washed mine at least once a week and they did pretty well, but I could still see rust on a few small parts (like brackets and fasteners) when I did maintenance/repairs.

Good luck.

I can somewhat relate. I started buying go fast parts for mine last year. Vortec heads, high flow runners, high flow manifold, a(both Eldebrock) nice cam and headers. Started having trouble with an old hip injury, in need of replacement. Then wifes cancer returned, but this time in the lung. She lost her 5 year fight. when she passed, my hip was so bad I couldn't bend over or squat without lots of pain. So waited for hip replacement. Did a heart stress test..showed heart trouble. Had a double bypass, open heart surgery. Woke up and went into a mini stroke. Lost all sight to my left side. Had to quit my job as an over the road tractor trailer driver.. retired. Just b4 the op, I bough a 03 Harley. Now, cant seeto my left, CPOD, lost memory and sense of direction/recall. VA says that I may have been infected with some sort of bacteria from the blood heating/cooling machine.Mike take 5 years to show up, memics TB. I have over a 1,00o bucks in go fast parts just sitting in the garage, mocking my health. One of my loves is taking the vette up to the drags here in Indy on test and tune wensdays and running it down the strip. Great fun for me and is one of the few things that get me out of a very bad deprtession since I lost my love.. I aint selling the vette nor the Harley. Friends say I am going to get hurt on the bike cause I cant see. I just tell them , I hope its quick. Due to my hip, I have only rode the harley once. Supposed to get hip replaced on the 22nd of Dec. So. don't let health problems get you down. There are many worse off than me and any time I get in the Vette to drive, most everything seems brighter. That wiil happen to you to. its not as dark as it seems for you. Keep the vette. Enjoy your life, tell your wife you love her and give her a hug. As they were rolling my wife out of the house ( she died in my arms) . I bent over, lightly kissed her on the lips and said," thank you for loving me". Anyway, again, its to darn cold to work on the vette now, so waiting for spring. Merrry xmas, enjoy your family.

Damn, that's beyond relating. I don't have a wife, never even a gf. Cars have been my life. I too have 1200$ or so of go fast parts sitting that I haven't gotten too. My biggest fear at my age is meeting someone late in life and only getting a few years with them befor they pass. Really sorry to hear that story and I'm sure it's rough this time of year. I'm sure your wife was a good person. Hard to go through that, but it's admirable to me the people who can and im sure other people find it admirable as well. Thats the roller coaster of life.

Not to late. Never to late for real, true, love. nothing makes life more enjoement,or contentment. If, ifs the right gal . Keep the vette, light the fires and take it for a drive. The difference between like and love? you like a flower, you pick it, you love it, you water it.

Best to avoid snow in my opinion with any sports car, especially RWD. If I had to drive mine in the winter I would make damn sure there wasn't even a hint of a flake in the air, and roads were clean and dry...Vettes are not made to be part time snowmobiles.

I generally always check the weather before taking mine out...while I don't get upset if I get stuck in a rain storm at the same time if it looks like it's going to be a crappy day, I just leave it at home.

Default I can relate-somewhat

Bought my first Vette when I was 71. About 6 months later after feeling short of breath somewhat I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. There is no known cure except a transplant. I have been going for an experimental drug treatment a 100 miles away every 3 week for 18 months now. It turned worse a couple months ago and I am now on oxygen. Might go back to Emory in Atlanta to explore the transplant possibility although it is a rough surgery at 74. Kind of lost interest in the Vette as driving with oxygen seems weird and tough with the tank and tubing and being a 6 speed. Time to sell the car maybe! The person who I bought it from, one of my best friends, is interested in buying it back, but we will see. He is a Georgia guy who has been up in WI and MN the last 2 weeks visiting their sons and I am sure they are sorry they are up there with the weather they are getting!

Good luck with the darn OXY. I had to buy one for the wife fort her trip back home to vist her folks ( she is an aussie shelia). They make battery powered oxy generators , portable that can free you up from the pull behind tanks. light weight and work great.

My heart goes out to all of you with health issues.

I survived five Montana winters in a Camaro. I never bought snow tires, either. Kept my angels busy!

For the OP, I hope your surgery goes well and you find a way to keep the Corvette.

ghoastrider, I hope your hip replacement goes well. Anyone I know who has had a hip replaced only says they wish they had done it sooner. I hope you get on that Harley!

I have been looking at those already. Medicare rules are that you have to be on the bottles for 1 month then if you can show you are using enough of the portable bottles they will cover the battery powered units. If they give me grief I will buy my own for about 3K. Kind of hinders your love life so I don't use the oxy, if I die I'll die happy!

My first construction job was in W. Pan. city, back in 68. I helped build you guys a brand new sewer pipeline system for the city. I grew up in Georgia and we used to run down there every chance we got. As highschool kids, we would steal a few watermelons from roadside stands and trade them for food over the weekend. Only did that 2 or 3 times, glad we never got caught. I think at the time they were like 25 cents each. Great town.

Oh the corvette isn't going anywhere, I don't exactly love the car, but it's paid for and gets double the mpg of my sierra 2500. I was just relating to the fact it seems a lot of people who own corvettes seem to end up with health issues, coincidence obviously but I read about it often on here.
