I have this leak in my 84 C4. It's a really stupid leak. It's not even a bad leak. But we all know that a tiny leak can become a big leak quickly.
I noticed it a couple of weeks ago. A small poodle of coolant under my car right under the air dam. I saw the drip down the air dam. So I took a look under the hood. I felt everything that I could feel to be dry except where the radiator sits. So I started the car right back up to see if I could hear or see anything. I found nothing. I let it sit overnight and repeated the process. Again, nothing. I checked the coolant level and it was fine. The only thing that was empty was the reservoir tank so of course I thought, Aha! It must be this bad boy leaking. I filled it with coolant about a third of the way and felt around before and after and it felt dry. I looked at the hose from it to the rad and it was dry. I let it sit until the following weekend and took her out for a drive. This time, nothing. I chalked it up to dumb luck.
Well today, the poodle was back. Again, really small poodle. Same spot, same drip down the air dam. I looked and looked and felt around and felt around but found the same exact results. This time I checked the reservoir and it had the exact same amount it had when I left it. This time I started it up with the AC on to get it hotter quicker and then turned it off. Right around 190 the fan kicks on and the coolant temp goes down as it should. The temp goes up a little when the fan turns off till it gets close to 190 and turns back on. Repeat. The hose going to the thermo was nice and hot but squeezable. Not sure what's going on short of maybe the radiator itself. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I would remove the top portion of the shroud and you could see ware its leaking, could be anywhere even at the transcooler, Replace the radiator. and Good luck.
