Default Timing cover gasket?

Noticed a trickle of oil seeping out of the old Optispark electrical connection on the bench. So I took it apart. Looks a tad over lubed to me.

I'm guessing it's time to order a new timing cover gasket? Or is there more to this still?

Easy fix just change the seal behind the opti spark. Do the water pump seall too since it is off. Use a sharpie cap for a install tool. The timing chain cover could be fine a lot more work for it.

Hope your seal comes out easier than mine did. I thought I was going to break the darn timing cover. It was stuck big time! Don't know if the PO glued it in or what, but I had to split the thing with a dremel rotary disk and peal it out. New one pressed in easy.

Thank you, brother.

It won't, of course. And I'll probably break something trying. PB Blaster is becoming my best friend.

That is what it looks like to me. The oil pan is easier than pulling and installing the hub. since your opti is out clean it up good eagle one etching will make your aluminum shine just spray and rinse. You will not stop there it is so easy.

So pulling the hub is worse than the pulley? Kill me now.

Eagle One, check. Special tool for pulling the seals? I was so looking forward to reassembly.

Karen won't be getting her 'vette back for Christmas.

Yes she will look in your junk drawer for a fat sharpie marker the top works as the install tool for your water pump seal. The opti seal will pull right out and slide back in unless some yahoo put something on it.

NOT THAT that opti seal isn't bad, and it probably is, but you may have other issues.

First is the PCV system working properly? if it is, the crankcase should be under a slight vacumn which should keep the oil in the crankcase; if not, and the crankcase pressurizes, then oil is forced out through any of a number of seals;

Second, its a 95 with a vented opti ? the vent system should pull out ... not just moisture... but any oil that gets past the seal, and its obvious yours wasn't...or if it was, then it was simply overwhelmed by the amount of oil.

About that fat Sharpie idea. I don't know if they've changed the sizes, but I spent 15 minutes at Staples with my WP seal. Closest I could find wasn't close enough.

But what I needed was already in my toolbox anyway. As it turns out my long 1/2" Craftsman socket was the perfect fit. Slid right on.
