Pulled the driveshaft off the 1985 for u joint replacement. The dampener was loose, so I removed it. The piece that it was installed on looks to be pressed on, so I don't think I will mess with it.
The arrow on the shaft is pointing to what I assume are the balancing weights and look like they are attached with some kind of adhesive. As all three shafts are going to be balanced next week, can I remove these weights now ? What's the best method to remove them ? I want to finish cleaning up the shafts before I take them in for balancing.
Thanks.

You mention '81 in your post - not that it makes a difference but I'd correct it if you could. Someone will hint that it's "misplaced" - I WON'T because it matters NOT!!
You're replacing the slip-yoke for sure I expect? If not which your post "hints" I might rethink that. I would leave the weights as they are and let the shop check with the weights as they are.

Sorry: 1985 (Fixed the post). You think I need to replace the slip yoke ? It is in great shape other than the dampener was loose. I researched a little and the consensus was just leave it off. Hmm...

Can't see the slip-yoke outer hub condition in the snapshot. If the shop says OK then it's fine. Did you pay attention to how it was indexed to the end-yoke on the shaft? Not as important since you've removed the damper and are doing the u-joints but we generally try to.

Yep. Marked everything. I will have them check out the yoke and order one if needed.
OK, so the shop guy says to replace the yoke, but I am coming up empty on a search. Anyone have any ideas or sources ????
Check with the folks at Inland Empire Driveline. If you order a drive shaft from Summit, these are the folks that build them. Great folks to work with.

Your local drive-line shop should be able to supply this slip-yoke. It's correct length with NO DAMPER and DOES NOT HAVE the counter bore. Have them confirm dimensions for you. It's available in many places BUT if you ain't familiar with drive-line don't be guessing.

Spicer 2-3-4911X
Thanks for the part number ! I have all the measurements and will verify them against that number. We don't have a local drive line shop per se. We do have a place that will balance whatever you bring them.

If they balance, repair and fabricate then they shouldn't have an issue. I'd make sure if you're doing your own buy that you get SPICER by brand and NOT just a "knock-off" that many supply. The "knock-off" is likely fine but I try to avoid all of them.
Compare yours to this. I've bought many Dana/Spicer parts from here and it's Spicer unless he mentions it's not. I haven't checked the dimensions for a very long time. I'd assume the posted dimensions in this link are what I've experienced in the past. I've bought this one "locally" many times for others. I like to shop "local" - Local gets first opportunity almost always.
