Non-specialty insurance for a modified Vette
Hi All,
It's been a long time since I've been on the board as I've been living overseas and Vette-less, but finally back in the country and the club with a newly-purchased 1992 Coupe (black ZF6) with some tasteful mods:
383 stroker with the usual intake and exhaust mods
DRE rotors, Wilwood calipers
Upgraded monosprings and shocks all round
Lowered 1.5"
Anyway, I've looked at the offerings from all the usual specialist collector and modified car insurance companies and decided I don't want to limit my driving activities based on their strict restrictions. I also don't currently have a garage which is a disqualifier with most of them. I'm happy to pay more to have no restrictions on where and when I drive the car.
So I'm wondering if anyone has found good deals insuring a modified Vette with one of the regular insurance outfits. Just curious to hear from other folk who've done this and found good deals.

Thanks Patsgarage; actually it's not the replacement cost I'm concerned about it's the liability side of things - I don't want to find the insurance company refuses to pay a 3rd party liability claim because the car is modified.

I have never heard of that, otherwise a rebuilt engine that had to be bored to clean up the cyl walls could be considered modified. I have had plenty of non stock cars insured with no issues, but then again I never had to file a claim either.

You need to talk to Adam at NCM insurance. Those of use that have used NCM are pleased. It helps that he knows Covettes.

OK, good to know - I had a good call with American Collectors today and got a very reasonable price quoted; just awaiting them to clear my garaging situation, hopefully Monday. They're OK with occasional trips to work which is what I'm looking for.

The good-After Sandy they were one of the first people to send out an adjuster and cut me a check, no hassle at all.
The bad-When I went to add another car to my policy last year they told me that according to Google earth my garage was too small to hold 3 cars. A little too much big brother for my taste.
