So I was looking into shifter *****. I wanted to get a 3" derlin hardbar so I could shift with my wrist vertical (rather than hand on top over ball type ****). More comfortable.
BUT I found all this stuff about:
- hold the **** loosely with two fingers
- shift lightly
- etc
or else you will wear out the transmission linkage, hurt collars, etc etc
Ruin my vibe!
Should I not shift with a hardbar with my wrist vertical (applies more force)?? Is that valid advice?
note: it was good advice not to rest hand on shifter so you don't push it a little rubbing parts

I'm not quite sure of what you are describing, pic might help.
But I can say for the 13 years I've been driving my '92, and 9 years my '96, both 6-speeds, my hand has been resting (for the most part) on the shifter **** while cruising down the highways.
I have to admit that I never heard that would cause some sort of premature wear on the trans. I row through the gears often, although normal shifting is the rotine of the day.
I have a delrin ball, it works fine. I wouldn't worry about a little extra leverage from a longer handle, some people exaggerate the risks of everything.
