My '96 Vette is not driven regularly. When I start it the clutch pedal is very soft and it takes awhile for it to become firm. Is there a fluid or vacuum issue I need to be concerned about. Until the clutch becomes firm again it shifts fine.
This is a form of an "early warning system" built into every C4. it is a problem issue. Either the slave or master cylinder is leaking and low on fluid or is picking up air. Most likely you will be able to bleed the system but it will fail again. If you have the time get a new slave and master cylinder and install them. It takes just a few hours for the inexperienced but mechanically inclined. Then you don't have to worry about it.
The issue may just be that the clutch master cylinder is low on fluid due to clutch plate wear but, you should check the master, slave and hydraulic line for leaks as above.

Mine did that same thing. I purchased it in September. The first week it ran fine but then the clutch dragged. The master cylinder was low. I filled it up, drove it a month and then stored it for the winter. When I started it up in spring the clutch was totally gone. The MC had drained just sitting there. Probably a bad slave. Replaced them both and all is good. If yours is losing fluid its going somewhere and its not going to get better. Like I said, this is a common problem with the C4 and easy to rectify.

Common, if you have access to a lift, replace it. Save yourself a headache and wear on your transmission from shifting without fully disengaged clutch.
