Trying to get my A/C working in my 85. It has been converted to 134a. It blows ice cold and the compressor cycles as it should when I charge it but only holds the charge for less than a day. Today I found the leak. See pic below. It seems to be an odd place to leak. It's on the front of the compressor on the side towards the passenger side wheel. It just bubbles on bubble after another right from that spot and yes there is green dye I the system and yes I know I need to get it professionally evacuated and filled once I get this fixed. My question is, is there any way to repair this compressor instead of paying the money for a new/reman one? There is also a used one right down the road from me for an 85 that someone has for sale off a parts car which I am considering, although, if I can, I'd rather seal/fix this one if it's possible but I have no idea. Thanks for any responses or advice.

The short answer is no. You could try some of the leak sealer r134a products that are out there. Most of those are o-ring swelling oil additives, it may stop it.
Rebuilding it yourself is possible but not recommended for a first time project. Some of the tools you will need will wipe away any money you save. R-4s aren't that expensive.
Ok thanks for that advice. I'm going to buy a driveworks brand reman one from Advance for $111 then
I'd get it from someone else that professionally rebuilds the compressors. The parts house ones are ..... well, you get what you paid for. It's cheap so you can afford to do it again if necessary.
my 2-cents -- get a new AC Delco service replacement. bought this unit for my 85's 134a conversion, along with a new delco accumulator/dryer. plug and play with no guesswork.

What Pag oil do I need? I've found posts that say you should use Pag 150 in an R4 compressor and others that say to use Pag 46 if it's converted to r134a but can't find a definitive answer.

I got my answer. Pag 150. The instructions with the new compressor say to ad half of the total amount of oil to the compressor and the other half to the accumulator. Now I'm just trying to figure out how much I should put in each. I'm thinking maybe 2 oz. in each but not sure
