got a barn find that has sat for quite a few years. installed a new fuel pump old one was stuck new fuel pump reg and it started right up. ran it for about 15 20 mins and turned it off. Restarted fine went in the shopped worked for about 30 mins went back out and no start no fuel pressure. this is the second time this has done this. thought it was the fuel pump but i guess i was wrong??
There is no rule to say it cannot be more than one thing. What does "no start" mean? Does it crank? Spray a little ether into the intake and see if it catches. If it does, stop spraying.
It will start with wd 40. not getting hot to pump for some reason. got dark i quit. replaced the fuel relay and a new pump again. like i said it started fine when i put a new pump in it and restarted a few seconds after i turned it off same thing happen with the other new pump. but after about 30 mins it cranked over fine just no fuel pressure. maybe a corroded fuse don't know where it's at but i'll find it and check it out in the morning. Car sat for several years.
Impossible to say. It should prime for 2 seconds after you turn the key to run. See if it is getting power. Remember, it primes and won't reprime itself for a bit more even if you remove the key so you have to wait a couple minutes for it to prime again. Check if you are getting power at the harness that meets the pump and go from there.
I have been keeping up on this subject in case I need a fuel pump. Anyways for my year 1985 the oil pressure needs to reach 5 psi for the pump to run.The oil pressure relay is behind the distributor. I don't know what year yours is but basic fuel pump change requires a new filter because if it is clogged it will ruin your new pump by not letting fuel pass like it should. Sounds like a find. Cllean all connectors when they come apart. Good luck
The car started and restarted several time. but after it sat for about 30 mins no fuel pressure. And no power to the pump , like i said may just be the fuse corroded will have to check it out tomorrow and go from there.. 1985 tune port. Thinking about jerking all this out and installing a big block I have carb and dis. no computer or other junk to worry about.

recycled the key several times to prime and just left it on but no power to pump so it's not going to prime. check fuse tomorrow.

I thought it was to be a backup circuit to keep the pump going if the main line fails?
Fuel pump can run for over 30 minutes dry. Your motor cannot run that long without fuel.
Fuel pump relay plug was corroded a few sprays with carb cleaner and problem solved. It was unplugged the other day when it was running, i guess it is it's limp mode to get you home in case the relay goes out, and has been unplugged for years while sitting. Just didn't notice how bad it was. I thought plugging it in a few times would do the trick but i thought wrong had to really blast it several time but it did the trick. Onward and upwards i hope. Thanks for the input guys.
