ASR (yet again)

In my 95 auto.. the ASR was VERY dangerous... it practically got me killed once and it really made me lose control a second time. When it kicked in it took control of the car and that's that.. it would stop you dead in the tracks at the wrong time.
In the 96 6spd car.. it's a totally different feeling.. if it kicks in, you notice it's there... but it's ever so slight. You don't feel as thou the ASR has control of the car.
Has anyone else had the chance to compare the ASR between an auto and a 6spd... if so... what are your thoughts?

Springer, on my 92 the ASR just plain SUCKS, and it's a 6-spd. It's the first year of the system and it's very sensitive and very intrusive. Are you coming to BG this year? If so we need to get in touch so you can drive mine and see what I mean.

Omly problem is, my automatic has the Bosch 2U unit where my '95 and your '96(I believe) has the Bosch 5 unit. There is a huge difference between those two units.
But on my 6 speed, I can still break the tires loose ever so slightly without the ASR kicking in, and even if it does, it's only for a split second, you hardly realize it kicked in.
Now in the automatic, it takes a hell of a long time to recover from a little tire spin, so it is much more intrusive.
I can get the 6 speed car sideways with ASR on(did it tonight-on purpose) where the automatic car won't slide as well with ASR on.
So definitely the newer ASR which you had in the other car is clearly superior, I believe that the because of the six speed, we have one more factor to consider---your left foot. With the left foot obviously in charge of the clutch pedal, you have more control over what you and the car are doing.
You push the clutch pedal in and no power to the rear wheels, you let off in an automatic, there is still some power(although greatly reduced) going to the rear wheels(hey it sounds good in my head). So you gain more control by having the ability to manipulate the clutch to your satisfaction.
Aside from that, it's a matter of availability and driveability with a six-speed. They didn't make a WHOLE lot; 6,012 out of 23,778 total in '94. Also, autos are better for track cars if you're into that thing.
