Hello, My 17 year old nephew has been working at a grocery store for the last year and managed to save enough money to buy his first car and he chose a Corvette. I knew he was smart however I didn't realize he was a genius. Lol. Anyhow he is getting it inspected Friday and it has a few things that need attention which I'm trying to take care of for him. It is a 95 and the third brake light is not working. I'm not sure how to get into it to fix it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
There are 4 bulbs in there, so it's unlikely that all 4 failed (although it did happen to a friend of mine). On my car there is a separate switch on the brake pedal for the high mounted brake light. That probably changed over the years, but maybe not. The switch might be out of adjustment.
Had the same issue on my '91. Failed inspec for third brake light. It had been working when I bought the car, and it wasn't the bulb, so I took the drivers seat out (I needed the room to get up under the dash by the floorboard) and found the switch. Somehow the plug for third brake light (if I recall, there was one plug for 3rd, one for the standard brake lights) had worked its way out - I have no idea how - but removing it all the way and re-seating allowed it work again. I had expected to have to replace the switch. I got lucky - you might try and get up there to look at the switch. Visually, mine looked deceptively ok - But I could feel it was not seated all the way when I got my hand up there.
The check of the "single" bulb is I'd think very easy. Through the tag opening and the socket I'd think a relatively easy reach. Access to the SLS is substantially more difficult and if it were a bulb I'd think an 1156 will do. Bulb check 1st!!
Thank you, I will check it out. Sounds like fun looking at that brake pedal switch.
It being a later '93+ car I don't believe you'll need to go there, you certainly might but you could certainly at least be optimistic when doing the reach for the bulb socket!!
