Default 2 Problems at once

Got my 87 running pretty good now, but,

1. When I try to read the codes, the chk engine light just stays on, no blinking. Is A & B the right pins to short?

2. There is water coming from under the rubber pad that is against the front of the foot well. Im assuming a bad heater core?
I thought it was the door seals and rain, kept getting the water out of the carpet, but today went ahead and pulled the carpet out and found the water coming from front of foot well.

Just when I thought I would be able to drive it

Hi

Yes the top far right terminals are the A & B pins, if they are not shorted and ignition is on the check engine light will stay on.
Use a paper clip or a piece of wire and push in all the way, then the light should flash codes.

If you have coolant on the carpet then the dreaded heater core change will be needed, you will learn new swear words.........
The usual consensus is GM started with a heater core and built the car around it ........

Buy a new heater core, pressure TEST it before putting it in

Make sure it is not a blocked a/c evaporator drain in engine bay, if it is just water it could be a windscreen leak but coolant ... yep that is one of the worst repair jobs ... I would rather replace the universal joints or rear hub wheel bearings ...

Good Luck

The water is clear no coolant in it, so something in the fire wall. there is no water leaking from the top of the windshield, there is a little in front of pass. door. but not the amount i found in the foot well. Water was all the way up to the front of the seat. So I think I need to look into the vents at the bottom of the windshield. see if I can get the covers off and see down there, is there a drain under the car I can probe to see if there is stuff blocking it?

Default Found where water is coming from

Did some reading last night, found out there is two hoses that come from under the cowling. Checked those today and both right and left side had dirt in them. The right more than the left. cleaned it out and ran some water through the cowling to flush out anything else. Read there is supposed to be one somewhere in the middle to, but couldnt find one.

Got all the rubber and matting pulled up inside the pass. foot well letting it all dry out.

Pull the fender panels right in front of the doors. Right behind the battery is a 1/2" rubbber hose hanging down. squeeze the bottom of it and dirt or other debri will fall out. run some water in the cowling to flush it out, make sure to replace it straight back down so any other water wont get into the battery tray in the future. The pass side one is to the left after you get the panel off, about an inch around, about 5 inches long.
