In my manual it says to not use OD to tow or going up steep grades.
also i thought he was talking about an auto transmission...
Look at the clutch apply charts, it makes a little more sense as the overrun clutch is not applied, putting mpre stress on the forward sprag roller clutch.
He WAS talking about an automatic. I guess it all depends on your point of view. There are some here who think these cars are supercars and need to be treated as such. Then there is the reality that there are tens of thousands of vehicles out there running these transmissions, many with more power than a C4 and they have absolutely no problem spending their entire life in D over, throttle romping or no throttle romping. Except under special occasions, why you would buy an automatic transmission and then shift it manually is beyond me. If you want constant engine breaking, buy a manual. Thanks for the schooling, but I am aware of how the clutchpacks work. By the way, just for the record, you can have a sprag clutch or a roller clutch, but there is no such thing as a sprag roller clutch.
I have a further question while we're talking about D over. I immediately get on the interstate when I come home from work. It seems until everything warms up the torque convert doesn't lock up completely unless I give it a little gas. I don't have this issue in D3rd.

Engine temp has to be in the 130s for the converter to lock up.
If we are in 3rd, should the trans downshift when we floor it from any speed? Cause I've driven some 700r4's that won't downshift in 3rd(D) at WOT, if you are going faster than like 55
Pfft part names are so overrated how about a picture!!
Not so. If part names are over rated, next time you go to the parts store, ask for a spark plug when you really need a fuel filter. See how that works. There is a difference in construction between a roller clutch and a sprag clutch. Their operation is different. Hence, I said there is no such thing as a sprag roller clutch as you posted. Research Hoss, research!

Yeah, those were important when i was doing it.
I know the parts by the sprag count, brand name, and if front or rear looking back...
Here are some pump pieces for fun...
(everyone loves pictures!!)
And nope i could not tell you the exact names of every part in there, but i could get it close, and i know how to take it apart and put it back together again...
