If it is an alarm, I would think it would illuminate once the alarm is set. Is there anything under the hood that looks like a small megaphone or horn?
Does the car have a Flex Compassitor?? It's a "running low" indicator. Throw a banana skin in the glove box and all is good!!
given the location I thought maybe it was connected to the muffler bearing as a monitor, because the muffler bearings are located between the cats and the mufflers And I think it is a "flux" capacitor and mine is working fine...........

My 85 had a red led installed and when I replaced the panel I replaced the broken Led.
It was flashing all the time as some PO wired it to my factory alarm, I put a toggle on it so I can turn it on if I need to .
