I just love being told that my personal experience with not one but two Optishits was all but unheard of. Yea, I'm sure both my '95 and my '96 were just isolated incidents. It's really a flawless arrangement. I'm just talking crap.
You run that b.s game, friend.
i had problems with the OEM optispark on my 93 .....at 26000 miles.....
however there was a reason.
the seals on the unit had cracked and water (from me washng engine) had gotten into it causing rust.
if you had problems with 2 optisparks i have to believe you likely installed a non-oem optispark back into the car vs. an oem (which have been unavailable from the dealer since about 2008)...

There is always a reason for failure no matter the mileage. But fail it will. And your replacement choices are all a crapshoot.

Believe what you want, but that was not the case. I replaced two factory units. You are welcome to inspect them.
It would be nice to feel confident enough to take a road trip in my 'vette. But it's been 8 months since the Opti nightmare, and I'm still not there.

I "feel you" there...that sucks. My wife needed to go home for a family emergency awhile back; 1500 miles each way to MI from here. I was away, her car was having issues...I said, "hop in the 'Vette....take that."
She did...she even TOOK OUR DOG WITH HER. She had nary a hitch. Ironically, (since we're talking about failed opti's, water, etc.) she drove through the hardest rain she's ever seen...she said it was raining so hard at points, Semi's were off the road, cars were off the road...there were white caps on the actual highway. She said she finally pulled over due to lack of vis, opened the door, there was standing water at the door sill. Yikes, but car ran with nary a hitch. Got her and our pup to MI and back home to PC...no issues. Your car should be the same way.

Not at all, your experience is your experience. Overall the Opti is a pretty durable part, but like anything, sometimes they fail. You just happened to have lightning strike twice. I can see where that would lead you believe the Optispark is a p.o.s., I don't blame you for thinking that at all.

I'm glad they both made it back okay.
With the lack of good replacement choices it's just hard to feel good about the swap. I did both jobs to the best of my ability. And they might be good for another 100K miles. But right now it's just too soon to tell.
