The tires are horrible and I can't wait until the BF Goodrich units go off of back order. These tires are old and dry rotten.[/QUOTE]

Go with the 245/50 ZR16's BFG Sport Comp 2's They are excellent tires and actually will make your car feel light on it's feet. They only change your speedo by 1 mph. You can't go wrong with them. I have them on my 86. The stock 255/50 ZR16's you are waiting on keep getting pushed back month after month and it's not worth your safety to wait on them with the crap tires on your car currently. Please excuse how dirty it is and ignore the camber and toe issues as this was last night before the 4 wheel alignment and a bath. But as you can tell the tires look nice still on the car.

Well, yesterday I finally had a little time to spend on the 86. I removed the instrument cluster and replaced the bulb that had been burnt out since last summer and I removed the high mount stop lamp assembly and replaced the one bulb that had burnt out. I've had the new bulbs for some time but I've had too many other things going on and forgot about them. Decided yesterday that I was going to get some stuff done on the Corvette.

Next job is the left front wheel bearing. I have it as well and it looks pretty simple to install. I have to buy tires and find a nice used steering wheel. I could buy new I suppose. Depends on what's out there. Then I have to figure out the issue with the overdrive unit which I'll make a post about. I want to get it fully functional this year. I'll keep updating this thread with repairs and pictures of the repairs.

For an 86 your paint looks great. Almost all 86s I have seen, including mine, the GM paint is peeling and just not nice,. You did good on your buy,

Thank you. Some of the paint is pretty good and some isn't. The rear bumper is the worst. I just try to keep it clean and the paint seems to do pretty well. For $3600 I think it was a decent buy. Still needs tires, a wheel bearing, a steering wheel, a.c. recharged and leak tested, and the seats arw just too stiff. I need to get new cushions as the padding is just too thick. You don't sit down into the seat as much as ride on top of it. Kinda ruins the whole driving experience really.

Somebody here posted a mod they did to the high brake light to convert it to LEDs. I can't seem to find the thread now, so it may have been the "What did you do to your C4 today?" thread.

edit:

Couldn't find that post, but here's a similar thread about LEDs.

another edit:

Here I found it! It was in a huge project thread. LED conversion of targa brake light.

Out in the garage, having a beer, and spending some time with the car after work is always fun for me. I decided to take a couple pics of the car and post them up since I haven't taken any since last year. Not that much has changed. I just love this car!!!!!

Haven't posted much this year due to working two jobs and having another baby. I did however install some newer tires and decide that I need new seats and carpet. The seats are rock hard and make the car completely unenjoyable to drive. Seems they were recovered as I had mentioned earlier in the thread and the padding is just too stiff and too padded. Would be nice to buy a parts car that had a good grey interior and just swap everything over. But for now on nicer days I have driven the car here and there and made sure I drove it yesterday, being Christmas and all and with no snow and 40 degree temps, it was perfect for a cruise around the block!

The weather yesterday was actually amazing for December in Ohio. It was 45 degrees and sunny and the roads were dry. I picked up the Corvette from the house after lunch and took it back into work to tinker with it. It was a hit with the guys in the shop that hadn't seen the car yet. It still amazes me how a 32 year old car draw a crowd. One of the younger guys said he thought he could never afford one and when I told him what I payed, he was shocked, Sucks that prices are down in a way, but in another way it doesn't because I want another LT1 6spd car. Wanted to share some pictures of the car that I took yesterdya. Its been soem time since I posted any.

Been forced to drive the car daily as I am awaiting parts for my BMW. The car has performed flawlessly
I replaced the left front wheel bearing on Sunday and wa surprised at how easy it was to change. No issues what so ever! Averaging close to 17 mpg in my mixed daily commute so not bad. Overall I'm pretty happy with the car!

Took a few pics to share a couple weeks back. My oldest can't wait to drive the car. I can't blame her.

Got caught in a downpour last night about 11:15 on my way home from work. It was the first time this has happened in this car. I mean huge winds and water ripping across the pavement and me in my 86. I have to say the car did much better than expected and drove flawlessly through the storm. I took it easy of course but I was extremely impressed with how the car handled the weather. This car never fails to amaze me in the worst of conditions.

First failure happened today on the way to work. Got a pin hole in the hose that runs from the throttle body to the hard line for the heater core. Noticed it when I got to work. Replaced it in the parking lot and all seems well. Will know for sure after work on the drive home. This car has been rock solid however. I have no complaints about its reliability.

Default thnx for the updates

my roach 4+3 86 has had many small parts replaced by me. the most recent was a fuseable link going to the radiator fan. wound up in an overheat with boiling coolant from the overflow.

mines an ironhead and is a bit like the honey badger. we hard wires the fan, put some coolant into the rad, drove home. after the repair to the fuseable link, installed new rad fan motor and new rad fan relay and now golden again. your car was and is in substantially better condition than mine.

keep the updates coming!

hey...do u have the emergency hood releases installed?

Sounds like you and your honey badger 4+3 have been through qhite a bit! Even though it needs work I bet it's still a great car!

I don't have the emergency hood release cables installed. Knock on wood so far so good. Though I know it's a good idea to install a set.

Took the 86 for a ride with my youngest son and came back and snapped a few pictures of the car and my 84. This car continues to run very well. Needs a left rear wheel bearing and I need to figure out why the engine cooling fan does not switch on.

I put an AL tube in the upper radiator hose with a nipple. In the Nipple I put a temp sender, 190 *
If I remember right , the sensor trips a relay and turns on the fan. It is wired right to the battery and a hot key on source for the trip.

I had similar issues on my 85, before I converted to a carb and did work on the motor.

I got the tube from Speed Way , it solved the problem.

I used the Rit dye on my sun bleached charcoal carpet and it worked great. That was last year and only a stop gap measure until I installed new carpet last week.

The plan is to install carpet after I install carpet in my 84 so the dye could buy me some time. I'll look up the Rit dye and see if they have colors that match the grey on the C4. My carpet is practically white in spots. How did the dye hold up and was it a spray on dye?

The left rear wheel bearing is making some noise and has some side to side play so that's in the list to replace tomorow. I have the bearing here ready to go.

The brake master cylinder is also completely shot. I found this out after driving the car the other day. The pedal would sink to the floor at stop lights and require a couple pumps to come back up. Other times the brake pedal would be firm and have no issues. And once it was very low when coming to a stop. I racked the car up and checked it and there was seepage between the brake master cylinder and the brake booster. Seems fluid is getting past the piston seal. The new brake master should be here tomorrow. I'll have my boys help me bleed the brakes once we are finished installing the new master cylinder. I'm not taking any chances and would rather just fix the car right away.

Otherwise the car is running and driving well:
