1st problem with the 'new' 92. Lucky I was close to home. Fuel was getting a little low, so I decided to full-er-up. WELL! For the life of me, I could not get the key in the dang gas cap. Ok, no problem, I'll go home and use a little WD40. NOPE! Fiddled with it for half an hour, no luck. SCREW IT,,,,,,,,,,,gets out the drill and drills the keyway. Then, takes a flat-blade screwdriver and twists. NOW THERE! Fixed.
Does anyone even have those on cars today? My 2012 has no such thing, are locking gas caps a thing of the past?

When I bought my '93 a year ago, one of the first things I did was to replace the locking cap that previous owner had installed with a standard cap. The car is garaged and the basic use for the car is autocross and track days.
Guess if somebody leaves a car outside, it may be a good idea. But as you found out, dealing with the lack of extra keys or losing your only key can be a PITA.
My C5 doesn't have a locking cap, but the filler door is a locking style.
On a side note, I got no love from a guy in a C7 vert on the ride home today. His nose was so far up, it was blocking the sunlight.
let him choke when it rains. i sit next to two C7 owners at work and we talk cars all the time. other side of me owns a 68 Mustang. A guy with a disassembled MG stops by and there's a kid with a porsche carrera.
the guy with his nose in the air doesn't get it. it's about a love of cars not about driving around in a Viagra bottle.

Under the category of useless information the C2 - C3 locking gas caps you could open with a penny or a dime. The was just enough movement to get them off.
