Can anyone tell me how to get the shift **** off my '92 6-speed?! Short of using a saws all. The factory manual feels it's so easy they just say to remove it (lots of friggin' help, that is...). So far I've removed a set screw and a snap ring. No ammount of twisting, pulling or cussing has made it budge. I don't get it; seems like it ought to be simple.
There is a "T" shaped wedge. Clamp a pair of vise grips to it and tap with a hammer in an upward motion. the wedge should come right out and then you can spin the **** off.
Do not try to wiggle or pry out the wedge, you'll either have a black eye or a hole in your roof if you try and don't succeed.
Thanks Moj, from the diagram in the manual, that's kind of what it looked like, but I didn't get any results at first so I thought I was missing someting. It must be in there pretty good. I'll keep trying.

The only way to do it. Obviously remove the center section (with the shift pattern printed on it) first.
