My 1984 radio and cassette are pretty shot. The rear speakers are gone and the othesr do not always work. I am looking to replace the system with a inexpensive CD and Radio. I do not care about sound quality, I just want the system to work. Can anyone suggest a basic CD player with just two working speakers in the doors. Something that will mount to what is already in the doors and that will adapt to the harness already in the car. I am not good with electronics.
ps I feel your pain, and I too am slowly going through this as well, but I'm skipping the CD, and going with an android capable multi media player. I've already pulled the rear speakers, and installed some nice JVC 3 way 6x9s. For the front I'm going with 5.25" diameter. I've yet to pull the door panels. I've been planning on doing it the past few weekends, but life has gotten in the way. Anyway I hope it goes as smooth as the rear did. I cut the inner portion of the speaker mounts out, and used an 1/8" luan in order to mount the speakers. Hopefully this weekend I can get to the fronts, then I just have to order my headunit from crutchfield.
If your car was originally equipped with the Bose system you need to run new speaker wires. Everything else is pretty easy. If you need a hand and want to visit the Jersey shore let me know.

I respectfully disagree with needing new wires. There are four wires running to each and are plenty large enough to carry the kind of power he is describing.
