What C4 Corvette should I get as a daily driver?

To me, a DD is just that. Parking it in lots with shopping carts banging around, Parallel parking and having a high bumper SUV back into or worse, over your Vette. It's also easily stolen by scumbags out for a joy and trash ride. They are also quite fragile and a fender bender in a steel car can be a major event in a glass car.
They survive as well as they do because most of them haven't been DDs. Many of those that have are donors in graveyards. JMTC

I have driven C4s daily for quite a while.
When I had a 100 mile per day commute I got a C4 ('88 A4 2.59) specifically for daily drive. It was great. I got about 30 mpg on the highway (better than my 4 cylinder gets). I drove it for about 2.5 years and 45k miles.
However I decided I would rather drive a 6 speed. So I sold the '88 and got a '94 6M to drive. It also got about 30 mpg on the highway. I drove it for about 2.5 years and 45k miles also.
On both cars, I shopped for a "driver" car. I looked for a good running car, but not show car condition. I thought they looked pretty good, but neither one was near perfect. I got them at good prices and when I sold them I was within a couple hundred dollars of my purchase price.
For me they made a great daily driver. I even drove them all year (in IL we have snow too) and they did fine. The type of tire is key to an all weather car. Both cars needed very little in maintenance or repairs (except for the usual oil changes, etc.)
As for choice of C4, that is very subjective to what each person wants. For me it is a '94-'96 6M. I just like driving a stick better, and there have been quite a few changes that I wanted and these years have them.
In short, do it! The bottom line is that it made me look forward to the drive. Even with 100 miles per day commute it was the best part of the day.

Since you want the lt engine over the l98, 95-96 is what you want to aim for. Both years have vented optisparks. C4 corvettes got better over the years in terms of refinements. Lastly, the 96 with a 6 speed will land you a lt4 (souped up lt1).

any C4 will make a good "daily driver" - just think of them as 20-30 year old Chevrolets. my preferences, a basic iron head 85, automatic, or a 95/96 LT1 car. 85's - simple, less complicated, and once everything is sorted, reliable. 95/96 is the state of the art in C4's, but more complicated. the key, with any used car, is finding one that has had proper care and maintenance. weigh out condition, price, and mileage. lowest mileage is not always the best car, and lowest price is not always the best deal. plenty of good decent cars out there....

i have a manual but i'm looking for an automatic for my running around. the manual is awesome for the open road but the stop-n-go sucks. plus with the auto's you can change the shift firmness and let me tell you it is noticeable.
