Default 96 HVAC changes every 10 seconds

The HVAC in my '96 alternates between hot and cold every ten seconds. It is a fairly quick shift. Could the blend door be swinging back and forth? It literally changes every ten seconds. That seems to indicate the programmer. Have read many older posts but haven't found anything similar. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

First make sure your compressor isn't cycling. 96's are famous (notorious) for bad controllers, the box on the inner firewall with all the vacuum lines. The little solenoids stick, the tiny vacuum lines break, etc. I haven't really heard of programmers doing that, but I suppose its possible.

Thanks Fred. Composure is not cycling. It is literally switching every 10 to 12 seconds; I timed it while driving. Also noticed that the indicator light above the pushed HVAC button blinks.

I'll try the other items you mentioned.
Thanks,
Charlie

in that case, do a search on how to get into the diagnostic mode on the hvac temperature display. It can tell you where your problem is originating from.

So, just to be straight, the compressor stays on? Does the fan speed change? Does the vent position (feet, in your face, defrost) change?

The blinking light says that your system has a problem and that you need to do a diagnosis on it. Pull the codes and look it up in your FSM.

Piece of cake.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not paid attention to possible shifts in air flow but will. Did not notice the fan speed but it continues to blow. I have run diagnostics previously but not for this problem. will do so.

Yes, the compressor continues to run. Change in air temperature is almost instantaneous, every 10 to 15 seconds.

Will go with your suggestions.
Thank you.
Charlie

Mine is showing the same symptoms as mentioned in this thread.
