Default broke rods

i have a friend that works in a garage and said somebody brought in an LT4 the other day and apperantly the owner was very stupid and hot roded it around all the time and i think he finally did his engine in. when he took it to the mechanic they said that without taking it apart it looked like he broke two or more rods cause they went through the bottom of the engine almost through the oil pan. about how much do you think he is looking at? he doesnt have very many miles. my friend that works there said the odometer said 52000 miles. it seems like a shame somebody would do something like that to a car. im just curious what you think he would be looking at either pricewise or what would need to be done to fix it

he prolly tore the block insides all to hell, cylinder walls scraped up good, tore up the crank, tore up the oil pan, tore up the mains, tore up the pistons but hopefully not the heads

If the interior damage wasnt as bad, he could mayyyyybeeee bore it out, but i doubt it.

Damn is the word, i cant believe that could be done with a stock engine, SC/nitrous yeah.

my wondering is if he took the rev limiter out and raced it and with no limit to how far he could go past the redline.... well you do the math

:yesnod: When rods get loose, they always seem to take a lot of other crap with them, and they frequently ventilate the block so you can't use it anymore. I would think the rev limiter would prevent you from spinning it apart, musta really hammered it some other way.

[edit] or fooled with the rev limit

A crate motor for a few thousand dollars and he'll be back on the road. Nothing that a good shop can't replace in a day's work. Live and learn!

I think your 8-9K for car with blown engine might be OK, Depending on the shape of the car and the motor. Speaking for myself, I would be interested if the heads were still OK. Somebody will want to put an LT4 back together and run it.

I've seen a ZR1 with no engine for ten grand if that puts anything into perspective.
