Default Fuel Rail Removal

Trying to do an injector swap, but the rail is held up by the runners. Is there a trick to getting the rail out? do I have to remove the runner? if so, how do I get to some of the hard to reach bottom bolts?

What model, engine, etc do you have? It is helpful to know these things. I have a FSM but it may not help if you don't have an L98.

WEK.

On my 88 I removed the valve covers to access all the Runner bolts but I was also in the process of pulling the heads.

You can get the fuel rails out if you remove the crossover pipes between them. If you don't do that then the runners will keep the fuel rails from coming out.

I pulled the runners out to do mine. If I remember right the only really difficult bolt was on the very back of the driver side and it wasn't too bad to get out. More of a pain getting back in.

A combination of ratchet extensions and swivels should give you access to all of them.

You Tube might help you here. Search for "replace L98 fuel injectors". Chris Fix and The Corvette Ben both have these videos if I recall.

I rarely take short cuts and i'm never in a hurry, so i'd say, remove the right and left plenum runners. in fact, remove anything and everything that's in the way. sometimes those short cuts cause more problems and take longer than any time saved. just my 2-cents....

You don't need to remove both runners to get the fuel rails out. Only one is required.

this is true, however, I can't recall ever doing just the fuel rails. seems i'm always in there doing a little more. if i'm going to take one runner off, I might as well take the other one off while i'm at it...

here's what I had to do to get to my rear sway bar bushings - - see, this is what I mean about never taking shortcuts -
