Ok. So I hit midlife and am now having a crisis. I need a C4. Dream car from high school. No judgement please. Need the digital dash. Doing lots of research watching you tube - corvette Ben is helpful - and reading on line from old and new articles. But seems like forums usually have the most help.
So the perfect car is red or silver. Would also consider black but all my car are black. No two tone. 86-88. Need the saw tooth 16's. Again it's my car so no judgment.
Want it to need some work - hopefully all mechanical and minimal body work.
Now for my first question. What is a 4+3? It sure on transmission. Overdrive in 2nd gear? What is that? Should I stick with the auto?
The Nash 4+3 Transmission is a 4-speed manual transmission that has Overdrive in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear, that could be disabled with a push button at the top of the stick. Some argue that the Transmission is problematic in that it's Rare and as far As I know the Corvette is the only car to use it... But, I would argue if maintained well, and with a little upkeep, they are fine.
Don't feel Bad that you "Want what you want"
I was new to this as well about a year ago I began my search. I finally found mine just this past February.
They are out there... Your car is out there.... You'll find it with patience....
This forum is a trove of info... use Google.. Ask google your question and Google will invariably have a link to this site that answers your question.
Don't be afraid to ask it if you cannot find it. Because who knows, we might all learn something.
As a Dreamer who made the same choice a couple of years ago, go for it!
Keep in mind a few things:
An early C4, with our great tail and glowing dash, are pretty low in prices these days. Expect around $5-8k. Low mileage does not mean good shape, depends what the previous owner (PO) actually did for maintenance and storage.
These will be around 30 years old, will be items to fix sooner than later, unless again, PO has done the job right. Many choose to do the work themselves, lots of info and community to get help and help others as you learn. I chose fixing mine as a new hobby and loving it, even with sweat and tears.
Two visual warnings, check center of dash for a light called "Sevice Engine Soon". Not good. Make sure on your test drive you get it to full temp, then stop/restart. The SES might show up then, indicating a MAF problem. I'm still trying to fix mine, it's a known PITA.
My opinion, see a 4sale with turbines, that smells fishy. Either they actually really like turbines or switched out their old custom wheels.
Make sure to check the DOT code on the tires to see how old they are. Plenty of tread on 10+ year old tires is not good.
Don't feel bad....I'm in the same boat! Looking for that perfect '96 GS that has my name on it. Remember drooling over one on a showroom floor when they were new...had to buy a '97 Grand Prix GTP back then...family on the way...coupe though...still have it and it's now my daughters (mint and always garaged).
So enjoy your search, I sure am and learning more every day.

The prices vary depending on what area of the country you are shopping in.
Dallas and LA seem to be a bit lower than some areas. Beware of rusty brake and fuel lines in areas such as Houston, Miami and rust belt states.
Most rust belt Vette owners never drive them in the winter though.
Here is one that is somewhat in my area. Might be worth a look: https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/...225465301.html
