I noticed last night coming home in my 88 that when I turned the headlights on the lights on my electronic (C68) climate control went off, all readouts and button lights. All the other dash lights seemed to be functioning properly. Any ideas, possibly a bad ground for the C68 system?
I have ordered from Bryan before and may pull the unit and send to him however this only happened when i turned my headlights on. Readout works fine most of the rest of the time.
That was some awful heavy reading for this early in the morning even with my electrical background. It is possible the lights were on and just had dimmed to the point I could not see them. I did not try adjusting my lights with the dimmer switch. Next time I have it out at night I will see if that makes a difference.
Another thing to think about when you turn your lights on, the display on your C68 head unit will also dim. This function comes through the radio.
That may be part of the problem. I installed an aftermarket radio and perhaps the light dimming circuit is not connected properly. The PO had removed all of the amps and original speakers and the Bose was not working so I put in a Kenwood unit.
A similar problem with my '87: turn on the headlights at night and the whole dash blacked out. Replacing the HL switch did nothing, so the cluster is on it's way to Batee for rebuild.

When I installed my new JVC unit I bypassed the dimming wire to the Climate Control unit so the display does not dim when the lights are on.
