Default Does a cold air filter kit make a notable difference???

Hello all..I am currently running a K & N filter in stock filter housing. I am wondering if a cold air kit will notably boost my h.p.? Does it change the sound of your car for the better? Should I increase the size of the Throttle Body and MAF sensor?
I have had this c4 12 years and I am looking to make it more aggressive performance wise and in sound. Currently running Magnaflow exhaust.

On a stock LT1 changing the TB or MAF will only hurt you wallet and no real gains. A cold air intake is about the same unless you are looking for sound or looks. The SLP Claw will give you more throttle sound but not HP performance.

I agree. Remove your filter housing and study the area that the filter sits in. How is any filter, stock or otherwise going to get COLD (ambient) air from that location? It's not. Aftermarket "CAI"'s for late C4's are a waste of money...other than the ones where you cut through something to get to actual cold air.

Superchargers and turbos are the air source that make a difference, if you don't want to buy better breathing engine parts and or cubic inches.

Ok ok I am thoroughly convinced... I'll dump that money into the C6 GS fund.I have had a 73 and jumped up to the 96. Now it's time to make the next jump up to a 2009-2013. Thx all for your input!

Make sure that you drive one before you buy it.

I'm more and more convinced every day that i talk to people that had/have C5's and C6's that the C4 is the better car. i dont care about "performance" so having a 400+hp stock engine means very little to me. I hear so much in the lines of how the new cars break down and have failed electrical and drivetrain components. Heck even Corvettes owners are suing GM right now for providing a poor vehicle. I used to want a C6 and give it a ZR1 appearance but I'm pretty sure I will just stick with C4's (i can say with great certainty that i will probably never own a C5).
just my 2 cents

I must agree...the C5 just doesn't do it for me! I like the C6 GS because it is more refined than my C4. The 7 must be an amazing car but it looks to boxy to me. I must say my 4 is snappy on the throttle and very responsive in the steering. The 300 ponies are just enough to make it come alive on the freeway as well.
All that being said we can go back and forth all day but when it comes down to it...Vettes Rules!

What do you guys think of the new mid engine design for 2018-2019?

I heard the Caddy and Vette will possibly share the same platform like the Audi R8 and Lambo do. The pics I have seen look pretty cool.

as to not get too far off topic... i do have an SLP cold air intake on my 95 (looks awesome) and a K&N on my 92...both cars came with the systems when i bought them...but as others have pointed out, cold air intakes provide little to no performance improvement just based on the desing of the car...there are however forced air bolt-on's for the C4 but they require using the front license plate housing...which would make it illegal in most states...unless you want a $140 ticket for no front plate.

No. However, if the airfoil is included with this mod, no.

I hear that a lot too. My issue is that I haven't experienced a lot of that. While it is true that there are more things to fail, the question is how often does it fail and with that, you need to discount the "parts replacers" since all they know how to do is throw parts at it. My 7.3 Powerstroke is a fine example. The local mechanic didn't bother to listen to my mods probably because he didn't understand it. His scan tool said the Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor was broke. Fair enough. We changed it. As I told him, it only changes long term fuel trim so why would it die every so often and wait till it sat for a while before it might start up. Another mechanic suggested we check for the fuel pressure and ignition. Sure enough, fuel line was crimped accidentally and the pressure got better but the Injector Driver Module was toast. Got hot and it could fail. Cooled off and it drove. So was that 2 components that failed or 1 plus an idiot mechanic?

I'm not sure that those license plate ones really would increase the pressure enough to do much. As to legality, I have been driving in WI since 91 with no front plate and haven't gotten stopped in the last 20 years.

I have a '13 C6 GS with a cold air intake & Duramax 2500 with a cold air intake, both K&N, and there is no noticeable power increase with either.

On my 91, there is a few HP over the stock unit when I put the conical filter on the TB. HOWEVER, that was on top of the curve and on a modified motor making 420 RWHP. Even then, you won't notice a few HP increase other than in your mind, aka "Placebo Effect". That is why I never believe the SOTP dyno.

a friend of mine that races C4 corvettes also tracked a C5 Z06 and a C6 Z06...he sold both the Z's and now daily drives a 92 zf6 and races two first generation C4's (that he has a ton of money in) and says he has no regrets. he's a smart guy and a corvette guy so i take his word for it...with that said i still may get a C6 at some time...the ZR1 appearance is so nice in that generation. but C5's arent on my radar...
