Recently divorced, almost retired, public servant wants to get best bang for buck. I'm not interested in the fastest and/or most popular, just the opposite. I'd like to get a solid car that is less marketable, but can possibly be upgraded at a later date. I would appreciate any comments since I'm an old novice whose hottest vehicle to date was a 1980 RX7. Thanks.
Just buy whatever catches YOUR eye!! I agree with the LT1 comment, but I'm rather biased. Just look it over very carefully. Check all the obvious and good luck!!:yesnod: And, welcome to the forum!! :seeya
Well, you've certainly come to the right place. Give it a day or so and you'll have more advice and information than you ever dreamed of. The most common theme will be "get the latest year with the lowest mileage you can afford". Pretty sensible but not a lot of help. I think you'll enjoy any year C4 - they were meant to drive and there are a lot of upgrades available. I'd vote for mileage over age personally. I've had an '85, '91 and now a '93 - enjoyed every one! Take your time - there are a lot of corvettes out there to choose from. Even shopping for a 'vette is fun! :yesnod: :seeya :chevy
I test drove 3 different years 1985, car was butcherd and pieced together, owner wanted 5000.00, I passed
Second was 1986 good condition 106,000 miles needed seatcover and little attention owner asking 10500.00 I passed
Third was 1988 good condition 86,000 miles needed new tires. that was it.
dealer asking 8995.00 sold bought it.
Just look around at the overall condition and price.
I got the later model that I could affort and it was better condition than the other two. Good Luck :D Welcome to the forum
Just divorced? Been there, I've been married 3 times. 3 bad women in a row, bad luck I'd say.
Oh well, Iv'e heard that there are some good ones out there some where?
Corvettes I mean.
If I was you I'd go for a L-98. 84-91.
They start at 4k and go to 14k.
An ex is like yesterdays newspaper, no one wants it anymore.
Relax it will be fine. Happy huntin.
How about some direction here. Whats your taste? vintage, C4, brand new? I guess if you posted here you like C4s but theres 50 years of vette . And what about budget $5000? $50000? We love to tell you whats right and wrong with each year (84-96 at laest). but you need to know what you want. My advice... Get a 96 with a manual sixspeed maybe in blue with a white stripe. I wish you happy hunting, I love vette shoppin!!! and Welcome.

I dont get it. It doesnt sound like you want to buy a vette. Sounds like you want an Accura Integra. But no one here is going to tell you to get one of those. :p:
Stay 85 and up to get the true fuel injection. 85-87 are bargains and make good daily drivers. The 350 engine can always be modified if you want, but runs great as-is.
Some ideas;
Take your time. Don't get too eager.
Look at lots of Vettes so you get an idea of price vs condition.
Get some books / magazines so you will be familiar with the various options
Hang out here! Lots of good discussions and ideas.
Get copies of AutoTrader and look up Vettes prices in your market.
Be aware; older cars require more work.
Go newer low milage if you don't like to do your own work.
Post the model / options / price here. Let others comment on the deal.
Good luck! Be sure to post here when you pick one out. :seeya
