Default Challenge car clone

Hi all I have an 89 Coupe that is a flood car. I bought it cheap and thought it would make a good hobbyist race car. I am looking for all the information I can get on the Corvette Challenge Cars. If you have some info or parts I'm interested. Right now I have a LQ4 and a 6 speed I'm planning to use. I'd like to find a roll bar and the seat. This is a budget build! Thanks for looking.

To do this accurately to how the Challenge Corvettes were done it will not be very "budget" friendly. I have been working on restoring a true un-raced 89 Corvette Challenge Car myself for 3 years and still have a LONG way to go before the car will be SVRA ready. The Dymags and seats will be tough if impossible to find and the exhaust system will have to be fabbed to match the original. The Challenge Car forums are inactive but they have data scattered through the web page.

As you can tell by the engine and trans I do not plan to pass this car off as an item for item true challenge Race car. It will be just a go somewhat fast fun racer, be it at a local track or the the Circuit De Corvette in Bowling Green,

I did an article for Corvette Enthusiast Magazine several years ago on this guy's car. This is a tribute car.
I no longer have his contact info but he lived in Kokomo, Indiana and has a graphics design company. I seem to remember that he bought used parts off the Forum and only had about $5,000 into the conversion.

I also just remembered that he was friends with the owner of Mid America Designs in Effingham, Illinois and patterned his car off of a car that was owned by them. Maybe Mike Yager can put you in contact with him.

Bob, there is a fellow in the C-1 section you may know. He lives on the northeast side of indy(Pendelton) and has a real challenge car. If you went to Indy corvette thingy a few weeks ago, he was racing it. His brother in law is also in the C-1 section, Mike Terry. Oh, the guys name with the vette is Brent Henderson. Mike has a supurb , prize winning 54 and Brent is a well known restorer of 53/4/5 corvettes and the owner of a excellent 53 vette. He is generous with his time, both are nice guys and I would contact them for answers. ( still haven't installed that D44 I got from you, but I will)

If you are mostly worried about the look, any vinyl place should be able to do one.

I had a business truck of mine vinyaled one time the whole box truck and lift. That was 2500, but it was lot of work and he was not the cheapest guy, but most reputable. I would think it would be a lot less than that for a c4 like you are talking about doing.

Do some searches back to early and mid 2000s there were at least like 4 guys I can think of that were doing projects like this. A couple real ones too of course.

A Challenge car clone.
If executed correctly this could fetch some extra money in the future.
Or at least hold its value.

I know and hang with two friends that have and race SVRA with real '88 Challenge cars. Although I know you have no intentions of passing yours off as a real one, making a copy clone is a nice tribute to them and would be something fun to have and track.
One is also a hard core C4 ZR1 guy and very knowledgeable about all things C4. Sorry I don't know his screen name over there on zr1 side of the forum, but if you PM me, I'll give you the e-mail address for both of these guys and I'm sure you will be heaped upon with plenty of Challenge Car info.
