Default C4 Prototype emblems

Well this thought randomly popped into my head today.

I seriously doubt they came up with the C4 logo on the first try.

So does anyone know about the possibility of other emblems? Do any pictures exist or even a description? I tried searching but I didn't find anything about them. I mean maybe GM was able to design the logo quickly but most logos go through quite a few changes before being used. I don't even remember "Corvette from the inside" talking about it. I'll have to go back and re-read it. Anyone know anything?

Here are pics I took at the National Corvette Museum. This looks to be an early prototype of the C4 emblem:

That's interesting that they had the C4 logo in 1972. I wonder what other emblems they looked at for the C4...

They had that emblem in 1972 so why not put it on the late C3? Maybe GM brass though it was too "futuristic" for the C3?

Thanks for the pics! I would have had NO IDEA that the C4 emblem existed that far back.

I found this picture. Sure looks like this full size clay model GM built was wearing an emblem similar to a 80-81' C3 badge.

This concept is also wearing the 80-81 style C3 badge I'm pretty sure. I don't see a ring around the "flags".

Considering GM already had the C4 emblem designed and around they clearly did not consider it the first choice as both of these concepts have the C3 style badge.

And another...

Sure is starting to look like GM decided on that 80-81 style emblem first and then switched gears later on.

Clearly it was chosen as the 82' emblem is different and if they were just using the latest version of the Corvette emblem because they had not chosen one for the C4 yet they would have stuck the 82' badge on the hood....

No guys. Chevy didn't design the c4 logo that far back. The Chevy design studio freshened and restored the car in the late 80s. That is why it currently sports C4 mirrors. I remember reading an article on it many years ago. I think it was in the Road & Track Corvette special edition from 1990. R&D put out an annual special Corvette Edition from about '87 to '91.

I'll also add that I think the car was in pretty bad condition from neglect prior to the resto.

Ok, so the C4 logo came about during C4 development. Still those earlier cars are not sporting a C4 badge. Maybe the C4 emblem without the ring? The first and 3rd pics I posted that could be the case. The 2nd picture is pretty distinctly the 80-81' emblem.
