Default Replacing exterior door handles (95)

The handles on my 95 are gold, they matched the gold emblems nicely - vomit. I didn't buy the new ones yet, but have had the door panels off and it looks a nightmare. Anyone replace them have any pointers? Thanks

I would very carefully sand them down while on the car then paint them on the car. before I try and remove them. the worst thing that can happen is you have to remove them

Yes, they look awful to remove. Haha

I removed the handles on my 84 when I repainted it. The reason was to repair some cracks that were under them. I painted them body color which was black.

It was not the easiest job but for sure not the worst. Two nuts and a couple linkage rods.

How did you get to the nuts, with some socket extension swivels? Thanks

I Googled your same question a week ago as I am going to re-paint also. I made a copy of an old CF answer.
"Put the window up, pop the clip off the rod that goes down to the door catch, 2 ten mm nuts and it's out".
I doubt I will get this far until next March so I don't know if this solution works. Let us know.

I did the job in 2011 so to the best of my memory with the window up I was able to reach up from the inside with a straight short extension and get the nuts off.

I would get the door panel off and look inside to determine what size extension to use. I believe the nut size is 10mm. They were what I refer to as speed nuts and not hard to get loose.

I reached up from the back open space where the two rods are close together.

Good luck on your job!
