I'm currently importing a 1986 Corvette into Australia however there are new laws in place regarding the importing of cars with asbestos. I'm wondering whether the '86 corvettes were still using asbestos parts and if so, what parts would possibly contain asbestos.

I thought I had read that it affected maybe later than '88 production. I've no idea but maybe base your research on a couple comments in this article.
If the car still has the original brake pads, they may have some asbestos in them. To be safe, just replace the pads with current available parts. Asbestos can't be used now in brake pads.
I would think that the various pieces of insulation around the car would be free of any amount of asbestos. Seems to me that the Australian government should have done enough research on just what materials went into classic cars and contacted the major automakers for specific information and data.
