Default Overdrive unit

I am in the process of changing the fluid and filter for the overdrive unit on my 86 convertible. I am ready to add the fluid but the fill plug has been over tightened and even rounded slightly by someone before me. If I can't get that plug out, it is possible to fill the unit though the cooler lines? I also read about someone modifying the 2nd gear sensor. Can it be filled through that opening? All look to be at similar level to the fill plug. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure about other fill options but the only issue I see is making sure you don't over fill it. Proper way is to fill until it slightly overflows from the fill plug. If you put the recommend amount in through the cooler lines I don't see why it would be an issue but I'm not 100% Might just try flatting two sides of plug to get smaller sized wrench on it

No, you can't use cooler lines or the vent line. Drill and tap an 1/4" fill plug hole in the middle of the existing 1/2" plug.

I suggest heat and vise-grips.

I was unable to get the plug out. I got good force on my breaker bar with a square socket and was unable to break it loose. I did pump ATF through the front cooler line. I was able pump in the stated capacity of 1.75 quarters. The level was over that line, I just applied pressure to the fill line and kept pumping. Not the perfect solution, but am curious why you said I can't do it?

Thanks!

Always turn the back wheels when you fill the fluid until you see the fluid flowing out. This will pump the fluid completely through the system and assure you have a complete fill.

I had the same problem when I owned my 86 I drilled and used a large easy out in the plug and cleaned the cavity when I changed my filter. I'm trying to remember if I had to drop the tailshaft when I did it but I don't remember. The 86 was done long ago.
