We finished up the harness bar installation by making some carpet pieces to cover the gaps where the targa top holders were. I don't take my targa top off, so we didn't need them. I purchased some carpet pieces from Mirrock Corvette and used them to make the covers. They are held in with heavy duty velco.
You can also see the sound deadener mat my wife made for us. She made a pattern out of heavy brown paper, then we used the foam anti-fatigue mats from Harbor Freight (on sale this weekend) with fabric glued over it. She picked out a red with dog paws as a nod to our furry four legged kids.
We do have a cover for the middle of the bar that will be on as soon as the zipper gets sown on. There is foam padding and then the cover. We found vinyl upholstery fabric from JoAnn Fabric that matches the 1996 Red interior perfectly.
It is from Exotic Muscle. 5 of the 6 holes lined up. The one that attaches to the passenger side seat belt bolt missed by a good 3/4". It was less expensive to have it welded up and redrilled than to ship it back for replacement.
As we discussed in another thread that another member started, these bars sure do tighten the hoop and body up.
For $20'ish cash outlay, plus a gallon or two of gas to go to JoAnn and Harbor Freight, the pad in the back works pretty good.
Here is a better picture, I changed the resolution on my phone.
If you "open the image in a new tab" you can expand it and see the little dog prints. As much work as she does on the Vette, it would have been really bad form to say no. Actually it turned out pretty cool.
My wife finished up the cover for the middle of the harness bar this morning. We are eventually going to do the diagonal uprights. It gives it a finished off look.
We measured the fabric and she sewed a zipper in. At the ends she sewed a flap to stick some cord through to pull the ends tight, then we tucked the ends up in.
Next step is the R&D camber brace that I purchased from a board member. Then after I do the suspension (Banski, Prothane and Del-Alum bushings for the front, new Bilsteins, all sitting in the closet, the cross brace is in the shed, but I am also thinking about the Vette2Vette frame stiffeners) the platform will be stiffened up and ready to do the engine mods. 1 step at a time. I have a goal in mind.
I have a lot of you to thank for giving me ideas and knowledge about these cars. I have always been able to see something and adapt it to my purposes and goals.
Hey Dave. Glad to see you are making excellent progress. Plus, the health concerns might have diminished for now. I'm anxious to hear about the camber brace installation when that happens.
For sure, I owe you a call!
