So I like most of you have a crappy Delco Bose system. I don't want to get into the dash or spend a ton of money but I want decent music.

Has as anyone put a small two channel amp in the back and added to after market speakers in the back and just connect rca cables to an aux cord to run music from phone?

if the wires that already run to the back speakers can power the amp the install should be easy. Something I could accomplish with a modest budget.

I have an 89 coupe.

1984-89 Chevrolet Corvette Newport 1.5 DIN Direct-fit Radio
$399.99

The RetroSound® Newport is a direct-fit replacement radio for your classic 1984-89 Chevy Corvette. Newport looks and fits like the original factory radio, but boasts the most modern technological features. An Apple Made-For-iPod®/iPhone® interface is built in, as is Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free phone calls and wireless audio streaming. Newport features a dual color (amber or green) color display and backlit buttons. Two USB ports for iPod®/iPhone® or flash drive (one on the front panel and one in the rear) plus two standard auxiliary inputs are included. Newport has a built-in 25 watts x 4 channel power amplifier as well as front and rear RCA pre-outs - plus subwoofer output - to add external amplifiers. It mounts seamlessly into your vehicle with the included mounting hardware and wiring harness. Until now, the only solution for your vehicle has been to install a standard DIN-sized radio - an installation that looks awkward and out of place. Now you can have the most modern features without sacrificing the looks of your classic car or truck.

Im running my mp3 player with a pair of battery speakers (3 AAA)that I got from Wally world for about $18 bucks. sounds good enough for now without messing the dash. When I drove two hours to Carlisle I took my satellite radio receiver plugged into those speakers and the antenna in the the hatch area, worked great

You can't power an amp off speaker wires. First of all, the speaker wires couldn't handle the amount of power that an amp would need. Secondly, the speaker wires aren't connected to power, they're connected to signal.

Replacing the radio with something aftermarket isn't that hard or expensive. Take it to a best buy if you can't do it yourself.

I've used Crutchfield for double din, Bluetooth radios in several c4's. They fit perfectly. All the Bose stuff removed gets Ebayed as "parts only".

Ok I'll go with the consensus and just replace the stereo and speakers. Thanks for the advice!
