I have been fighting an error code 36 ( MAF sensor burn off relay) for over a month. I have replaced the MAF sensor twice. I have replaced the burn off relay and the power relay twice. I have replaced the pig tail on the MAF sensor. I still get the error code 36. To make it worse after I disconnect the battery and start the car no code. I have driven the car over 50 miles. When I stop the car and restart it I get the error 36. The performance and gas mileage are great.
I recently had a code 36 also. I noticed the engine would sometimes stall at low and erratic rpms (manual transmission) right before the time the code 36 appeared. It gradually got worse. I removed the throttle body and completely cleaned it and replaced all the gaskets. I changed the MAF sensor with a new old stock one I found on line. The code 36 dissappeared and the car idle is now perfect. I don't know if it would correct your problem, but try removing and cleaning your throttle body and replace its gaskets. (Very easy job) It seemed to be some of the problem giving me the "code 36" or at least they both occured at the same time.
