I have had my 96 base for about 5 months now. When I first bought it I checked the spare tire and it was at zero. Brand new- never used. I filled up to 60 pounds and reinstalled. I checked again today mostly to wash the area out (I have a mile of gravel each way out of my house). It was again at zero. Sprayed the bead and it was leaking big time. I then realized when I dropped the spare the bolt was very loose. I had tightened it up when at 60 pounds and as the air leaked out it became very loose. Been hearing a clunk in the rear that has been driving me crazy. I bet this was it. My question- when washing out the holder a piece of foam about 3/8" thick and a half circle maybe 5" washed out. Where is this supposed to go? Thanks, Dan

My guess is that sits in the bottom of your spare and provides an ant rattle cushion as the jack sits on top of it.
Both my 91 and 89 did not have this. Both had a BIG sheet of foam the would cover the whole tire and press up against the tire carrier top.
Took it to my small tire shop and they put bead sealer on both sides and no leaks. Wrapped in a thick garbage bag and it it now up nice and tight. Sure hope this is my clunk. Will find out later as the wife has me washing windows. Dan
Well it was not the clunk. My clunk is the talked about 2-3 shift at light throttle. New rear bearings and u-joints. Never happens on shift 1 to 2, only 2 to 3. Any ideas? Thank You, Dan
