Default Door adjustment

89 stock

my driver side door needs to be adjusted upward some. When I close door slowly, I notice trim on door is lower then trim on quarter panel. I replaced pins in both hinges one at a time, but it didn't raise door adjustment. If I close door, and loosen all bolts that go into door, on both hinges, then retighten, wouldn't that adjust door?

I don't think so, you're not accounting for 'droop' in your equation. Most doors I've worked on, we adjusted them slightly high on the doorjam side when open slightly so when the supports came out from under the door, gravity then brought it into alignment.

Never got one right the first time. Usually took 3 or 4 tires to get it into the right spot. Some we also had to shim to get them aligned correctly.

Good luck.

You need to have it slightly open and put it on a jack with microfiber towels. Then I loosened the bolts and jacked it up carefully. Like hcbph said, it needs to be a bit higher than level, because it will drop a bit when you let down the jack. Also if your door was out of alignment it may have moved your window out of alignment.

this is exactly correct. BE CAREFUL you dont let the full weight if the door fall on one hinge.

took me over 15 loosen/reposition/tighten cycles to get the door strike sound and alignment perfect.

dont overtighten any hinge bolts, dont round any bolt heads.

good luck.
